Welcome to the BRAND NEW Pre-Optometry section of the Texas Optometric
Association (TOA) website! This new section is the product of an inaugural
meeting of the pre-optometry leaders from across Texas this summer. The TOA
learned from these undergraduate students that they need improved communications
with the TOA and the practicing optometrists of Texas. We also learned that they
need the opportunity to gain some “real world” experience with optometry. They
need this experience to help them decide if Optometry is the profession for them
and to help with their applications to the University of Houston College of
Optometry. To help satisfy these needs, the Public Information committee of the
TOA had created this exciting new web-page.
First, any and all pre-optometry chapters in Texas can submit articles,
calendars of events, or information to this website for all of the other
pre-optometry students to view. Second, we have created an e-classified system
to help facilitate “job shadowing.” Please click on the link above to see a
listing of the TOA member doctors who are willing to have undergraduate students
visit their offices. This list will be expanding every week, so please check
back often. We are working to promote this opportunity with our doctors right
now.
The TOA is delighted to work with the Pre-Optometry students of Texas because
we know that they represent the very best of Texas and the future of our
profession.
